Reiner Schöne

...is one of the few German singers and actors to have achieved an international career.

He grew up in Weimar, where he studied acting at the German National Theatre. Parallel to his acting career, he also made a name for himself as a singer and song writer, performed in the theatre, directed DEFA films, and recorded his first records. In 1968, following a concert in West Berlin he chose not to return to the German Democratic Republic. That same year came his breakthrough in the west in the leading role of Berger in the German premiere of the rock musical Hair. In 1972 followed the title role in the German premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar.

In addition to his career as a singer, he continued with his acting career in film, television, and theatre. In 1985, following the filming of the Disney series The Return to Treasure Island Schöne left Germany for Hollywood. There he worked with renowned talents such as Clint Eastwood, Lee van Cleef, and Kris Kristofferson and appeared in such successful series as Star Trek - The Next Generation.

After almost twenty years in the USA, Reiner Schöne chose to return to Germany, where he has made feature films such as Otto - Der Katastrofenfilm, (T)Raumschiff Surprise-Periode 1, Die Teufelskicker, Snowman’s Land, Die vierte Macht, Das Kind. For television he appeared in Der Minister, as well as popular productions such as Pilcher und Traumschiff.  He also appeared as the hotel clan boss Albrecht Lindbergh in the ZDF series 5 Sterne.

In 2013, the new Reiner Schöne Band album Mitten ins Herz appeared, as well as the book and audiobook of the autobiographical stories, Werd ich noch jung sein, wenn ich älter bin (based on his hit from the 70s). As the German voice of Optimus Prime in the three Transformers films, Reiner Schöne has already gained his next generation of young fans.
